MUSC Longford @ Old Trafford 24/25 Vol4

14/05/2025

Fixture: V Wolves

There was a great buzz among our travelling members as they set off for our Supporters Club's final trip to the Theatre of Dreams for this Pemier League season for the visit of Wolves on Easter Weekend.

It's been a pretty abysmal showing in the domestic campaign and our only hope of salvaging a champions league spot is by getting to lift the Europa League Trophy next week.
So given our continued impressive European form, it was no surprise the mood was upbeat on the back of a ding-dong European Quarter-final double header V Lyon.

With the away leg in France first up, Lyon played some tidy football and snatched a 2-2 draw at the death.

In attendance to witness the heroics of the epic return leg were Nicola and Mary King.
It's safe to say this night will live long in these ladies memories, not only for the the victory and electric atmosphere but for the emotional roller-coaster it took the entire fanbase on!

"It was unreal - one of the best nights ever at OT.
Even though they went 4-2 there was an air of belief that they would get it to penos."

Matchday V Wolves

Fast-forward three days and Nicola and Mary King are joined by Jessica to make it three generations at OT but are far less than happy with another home loss in a Premier League run that hopefully is not too long wiped from our memories.

Unfortunately our league form has been nowhere near as explosive as our European endeavours have faired out and the ladies left largely downhearted with this display.

Kevin Keenan who as always guided our troops across the water in one piece was also disappointed with the showing offered up for the fans.

"The fourth and final trip of the season for our club members took place over the Easter weekend, with 24 members making the journey to Old Trafford to watch United take on Wolves under the spring sunshine.

There was a huge buzz around the ground following Thursday night's incredible comeback, and expectations were high. The Stretford End was in full voice, creating an electric atmosphere.

The first half, however, was quite tame. With five changes to the side that beat Lyon, United struggled for creativity and couldn’t break down a well-organised Wolves defence.

United showed improvement at the start of the second half, pressing well for about ten minutes, but Wolves remained resilient. Bruno had one notable effort, but ultimately, it was Wolves who took their chance: after Eriksen fouled Cunha, Sarabia stepped up and scored a brilliant free-kick — Wolves’ only real effort on goal, but it was enough to secure all three points at Old Trafford.

Despite the disappointing result, the spirits of the travelling faithful from Longford remained high. It was another fantastic weekend for everyone involved. It's always nice to get three points when we travel, and it would have been great for our junior members to see a few goals at Old Trafford — but once again, thanks to all who travelled and helped make it another memorable trip"

KEVIN

So as Kevin states regardless of the result, the experience of Matchday at the Theatre of Dreams is always pretty amazing as is the weekend that's in it!

As the season draws to a close our once mighty reds find themselves in the bottom half of the Premier League table for the very first time with two games to go, in fact you would have to go back to 88/89 & 89/90 seasons in the old First Division for similarly poor campaigns.

One things for sure the only way is up from here, a good pre-season and some top signings will go a long way to getting our beloved football team back to where it belongs!
Thank God for our European form and a whole lot to shout about, if somewhat cautious, going into our double header V Athletic Club de Bilbao, coincidentally the hosts of the final on Wednesday.

After a relatively easy 3-0 away leg result, there was still another great European night on offer at The Theatre of Dreams.

In attendance for the home leg were MUSC Longford members Sean Martin, Rian Murphy, John and Oran Conlon who caught some fantastic action and that electric Old Trafford athmosphere for this European Semi-final as we sealed our way back to the cauldron in Bilbao for a Final match up V Spurs.

    Now our season is all but done but at least we'll have one massive night to entertain us, so to finish with a message from our Secretary Kevin;

What a mad few weeks we've just had in Europe. Just as the league campaign had us all totally frustrated and wishing the season away, the Reds have delivered another couple of epic European nights to remember. Now, one more massive test awaits.

We’re heading to Valentines on May 21st to watch the final — and this one could be special. Let’s pack the place out Let’s make it another unforgettable night in Europe.

I’ll be sending out details on membership renewals for the 25/26 season next week.

Looking forward to seeing you all on the 21st!
