How things have changed in Manchester since the great Sir Alex last sat in the hotseat, in an era where managers are not given enough time to establish themselves, is Michael Carrick the right man for the job? Why not?
Was David Moyes the right man for the job? Why not.
There was the possibility of the great man himself falling victim to the calls for his own head early on in his tenure and how different our history would be if Fergie was let go when all the noise pointed that way.
How about Van Gaal, Mourinho, Ten Hag or Amorim? They all had one thing in common- they weren't backed... By the board, by the players, by the pundits or the fans, for various reasons no doubt but they weren't given a fair chance to succeed and we were right back to square one each time.
Like some of his ex teammates who went on to manage United, Michael knows all about the passion and character required to represent The Red Devils, something that is lacking in the current squad of players he has at his disposal.
Like Carrick- Giggs, Solksjaer, Van Nistelrooy and Fletcher all bled for their great teams as did the players they went to battle alongside week in week out and that's what needs to happen with this current crop but unfortunately some of them aren't fit to lace the boots of those legends.
Even Ralf Rangnick knew the team, the club needed open heart surgery to get back to the once mighty giants of Manchester they were under Ferguson.
Michael Carrick has poured his heart out in his press conferences declaring his love for the club and the fans in particular, while also being emphatic about his willingness to getting the team back to playing with determination. At the end of the day that's what's missing most, confidence and belief and a certain resilience that's renowned with Manchester United Football Club... Talk is cheap however and football is a results game but before you get results in games you need a performance, a show of courage , determination and togetherness!
With our own Supporters Club visiting The Theatre of Dreams for the visit of Bournemouth this weekend we look back at our last club trip where Michael Carrick's Manchester United edged our fierce rivals Liverpool out with a display of the exact defiance and determination that has let us down this season, until now with any luck!
